Take the First Step

🩺 Your HSA doesn't have to be just a medical checking account.

For eligible individuals, it may also play a role in preparing for healthcare expenses in retirement.

A few questions worth asking:

💰 Do I need to spend my HSA today?
📈 Should some of it be invested?
🧾 Am I saving my qualified medical receipts?
🏥 How could I use it in retirement?
🎂 What changes after age 65?
📅 What happens when I enroll in Medicare?

Your HSA can be one piece of a much larger retirement plan.

We break down 7 strategies to consider in our newest blog.

💵 Can you have TOO MUCH cash?

The answer isn't as simple as picking a percentage.

Cash for an emergency fund? ✔️
Cash for an upcoming purchase? ✔️
Cash for retirement spending? ✔️

But what about cash that's been sitting there for years because you're waiting for the “right time” to invest—or simply haven't decided what to do with it?

That's a different conversation.

Cash can have risks that aren't always obvious on your account statement, including:

📉 Inflation
💰 Taxes
📉 Falling interest rates
⏳ Reinvestment risk
📈 Potential missed long-term growth

The better question may be:

“What is my cash for?”

⏰ The Roth 5-year rule isn't necessarily just ONE rule.

That's where things can get confusing.

Depending on your situation, you may need to consider:

💰 Roth IRA contributions
🔄 Roth conversions
📈 Roth earnings
🏢 Roth 401(k)s
➡️ Rollovers
🎂 Your age

And here's something many investors may not realize:

Your Roth IRA five-year holding period for qualified distributions generally starts January 1 of the tax year for which your first Roth IRA contribution is made.

So instead of simply asking:

❌ “Have I had a Roth for five years?”

Consider asking:

✅ “Which five-year rule applies to the money I'm planning to withdraw?”

We explain it in our latest blog.
