Take the First Step

⏰ The Roth 5-year rule isn't necessarily just ONE rule.

That's where things can get confusing.

Depending on your situation, you may need to consider:

💰 Roth IRA contributions
🔄 Roth conversions
📈 Roth earnings
🏢 Roth 401(k)s
➡️ Rollovers
🎂 Your age

And here's something many investors may not realize:

Your Roth IRA five-year holding period for qualified distributions generally starts January 1 of the tax year for which your first Roth IRA contribution is made.

So instead of simply asking:

❌ “Have I had a Roth for five years?”

Consider asking:

✅ “Which five-year rule applies to the money I'm planning to withdraw?”

We explain it in our latest blog.

📱 You love the phone.
🚗 You love the car.
👟 You won't buy another brand of shoes.

But does that mean you should own the stock?

A great product, a great company, and a great investment aren't necessarily the same thing.

When evaluating an individual stock, investors may also need to consider:

📊 What expectations are already reflected in the price?
💼 How much of the stock do you already own?
⚖️ How does it affect your portfolio's diversification?
💰 Would selling create tax consequences?
🎯 Does the investment still fit your financial plan?

This can become particularly important when a successful investment—or employer stock—grows into a significant portion of your wealth.

Our newest article explores how to separate your feelings about a company from the investment decision.

❤️ Love the product? Love the company?

Does that mean you should own the stock?

Not necessarily.

A great product, a great company, and a great investment are three different questions.

And if you already own the stock, there's another question worth asking:

Would you buy the same amount today?

Our newest article looks at individual stock investing, emotional attachment, employer stock, concentrated positions, diversification, taxes, and how an investment fits into your broader financial plan.
